Blogging...

In my opinion this activity really useful in many ways, it was a good teaching tool and why known each other in the course. In all this process I have really enjoyed the writing exercise, if I didn't the lasts weeks was because I was too busy and forget abut it. Now I show my apologizes and my pending posts.

This was interestingly because it was a way to know about my class mates in the CFG. I appreciate them and wish to keep in touch with the ones that aren't studying medicine. I have some troubles to get some ideas, and to express the ideas that I finally get.

It was an advantage to this this sort of exercise in an English course because it help us to learn how to writhe in English, and even more to get confident about to express myself in another language. Some times the topics were a little bit boring, but the have sense, I mean the course most have some direction.

This is all that I want to say but goodbye. As I say, I really enjoyed this course, my classmates were great and the ambient was absolutely nice, thanks to everibody in this CFG, and sorry for the problems that I caused.

My ideal job

First I will answer the question: Do you think the job market is an issue for health professionals? Well, I think it is an important part of the market, no for free the pharmaceutical business is one of the more important, but It is a mistake to thing than the health would be regulated as a normal product in the market, because people can't live without heath, so is not a normal product.

But about my ideal job, I don't really had taken a piece of my time to thing about this till today. I don't really know wich one would be my ideal job. It most be related to medicine, and this isn't only because I'm studying medicine, it is because I believe than this is my way to be helpful tho the people I will work with. I will work with people, because I can't handle my own loneliness.

Of course I will work with a team, two or more heads think better than only one. But, where? I think in my future specialization and see the urgency, I think that there you have to be smart enough to take the right decision in a short time, and the strength to work in a stress ambient. I mean, that my skills will be tested all the time working in the urgency's. But I'm not relay sure about what to do with my future, but haver enough time to think anyway.

In shortage of ideas... My last resource is...

When people say talk (or write in this case) about anything you want, they tell you almost, don't say anything, Why? because you start to think: What would be interesting?

Why is so hard? I think that it is because there are a lot of thighs and topics to talk about, some are more serious or important than others, but that isn't the point of this essay. So, which one, I choose the one I handle better, Me. Of course, I will only talk about a small part of me, because two things: firs, if you want to know about me, well come and talk to me. And second, I can use only 280 words, and I haver waste already something like 120 of them.

As you may already know, I'm a talky person. I love to talk and even more to argue. This is because that is the way to know about people, and to learn about things. This is the reason why I almost always pick the opposing position, and sometimes I don't really defend that position, but the pleasure of a good discussion worth it.

Other thing about me, I love the games. I have an almost sacred time to use it playing PC games, I play a lots of RTS (Real Time Strategy) games, In fact the first PC game I ever played, as I remember, is Age of Empires, a classic one. I play a lots of RPG (Role Playing Game) not the table one. And finally the guitar hero, it cant be absent, is such a great game, of course, if you play it whit the guitar. Why I say this, because If you want to talk about games I will be able to do it.

Well to end this post, as a summary, I will tell you that I'm a manga reader, a TV watcher, some sort of a gamer (in this moment I have 18 games installed in my laptop), and love to sleep (among other things), so I can say that the only thing I really need is more time in my life, to do more things without any regret.

Good bye.

Prevention and education, the treatment to our health system

Today I will talk about a very important topic, a topic that include all the health system of anywhere, or should be include in every health system.

There are many reasons to think that prevention is the solution to many of the health system problems. First, nobody enjoy being sick, so if the health service help people to avoid the diseases, those healthy people will be more happy and thankful to the system. Second, a healthy lifestyle is very similar to everybody, so the health professionals will be very confident in the prevention methods results, instead the insecurity around a possible treatments for a possible disease. And the last point that I going to present, the prevention programs costs are cheaper than treatments costs, so execute a prevention health programs could reduce the maintaining costs of an effective health system.

The education is very important because it is estimate that something like the 75% of the healthy of people depends on each one, and something like 25% depends on the health system. The health professionals should teach people how to take care of that 75% that depends on themselves.

The health professionals would help with their commitment to people, to educate the people who visit them. I mean, this kind of health service revolution have to have a community susceptible to work with, the people most trust that prevention is better than healing.

MORFO, a stone in my shoe.

It can be said a lots of things about "morfologia aplicada a la clinica (morphology)" or as I call it MORFO.

First, morfo is a subject that includes 4 subjects that are very different. They are: Anatomy, Neuro Anatomy, Histology and Embryology. Neuro Anatomy was a good subject, it was hard but it wasn't only a memory exercise to my brain, but even there were a lots of things that have to been learned by heart. But the other 3 subjects were almost only a memory task, especially Anatomy, the one I hate. I don't like to read something that I have to memorize, I like to apply knowledge and develop new skills. Maybe this could be the reason why Physiology is so interestingly for me.

But I'm grateful to morfo, because it was so hard that it changed the way I study. I mean, in the school nothing was really difficult, I Finish all my years without an real effort but without any recognition. Now, after my first year, I really work more hard.

Why Medicine?

There are lot of reasons to study medicine, from social commitment to erning money. But, why have I chosen it? At the beginnig it was because of the influence of my mom, who is a midwife. So I lived surrended by a "medical context", I lived next to an medical center.

Being a young boy i realized about many of the problems that the system still have. But, at the end I take my desicion because I wanted a place to be usefull, and a carrer where my skill could be improved.

After get the grad I will enter in the "general de zona" program, so I will work before take an specialization course. I don't know yet what specialization I will study.

My plan is to work for the public health system, because I would like to change it, at the local level at least. That is to say to make it more effective in promotion of healthy life style to the population, that means to teach people how to take care of themselves and their family.

The earth was moved Edited

The earthquake of February was my second experience with this kind of phenomenon, but the first one in a ninth floor, i have to say that it was pretty harder in the apartment.

I wasn't afraid until i get noticed that it was in fact an earthquake, i was convinced that it was a hard tremor. The first person i called was my girlfriend, who live in a nineteenth floor (guess how hard was there) and she was the one who told me that we lived an earthquake, it doesn't mean i wasn't worried about my family, it only means that my family was in Ovalle, and my girlfriend was here in Santiago, it make sense now, doesn't?

After i made my call i get down of my apartment i started to ask the strength of the movement and the epicenter, to know if my family was o not affected, at the same time i was trying to call them, but the cell phone line wasn't working. When i finally talked with my mom she told me that she was sleeping.

It was around the 6 am when i went again to my apartment, but couldn't fell sleep until around 10, so i was waiting watching the news and feeling the replica.

Rufolf Virchow

Now i will talk you about Rudolf Virchow, the creator of the celular theory of patology. Why this is so important? Well, this theory is one of the bases of the modern medicine paradigm with, for example, the microbiotical theory about deseases.

Virchow was born at 1821 in Schivelbein, Pusia. Studied medicine in the Beril University. He become main teacher of the anatopathology class in Würzburg University. He was too a Prusian parlamen member, there he built a remarcable politic carrer.

Virchow main improvement to medicine was the celular theory of pathology, which mean that everething that happens to the body have a celular cause, and a celular final effect, in Virchow words: "No importa cuántas vueltas le demos, al final siempre regresaremos a la célula." Which means, It doesn't matter how much we think about it, in the end we will always end up talking about cells.

The Virchow theory is still valid. Of course, now there is much more information available, like genetic knowledge, for example. These new insights are paving the way to make a more complete explanation to the Virchow theory, not refuting it.

Who's talking to you

Well my dear reader, here i'm Alex Alvarez writing in this blog for the CFG, like all of you. I'm a medicine student of seccond grade, i was born in Concepcion, but i come from Ovalle (is in the IV region).
I hope to write a nice blog, in the limits that the class give to us, i want to improve my writing in english skills too, after all that is why i took this CFG.
I make you an invitation to leave your message in my blog, ask any question you have about me and my publications, in my opinion that is the idea.
Let's make this journey of learning and to make us a bilingual person, and know each other a litle bit.
